Badar Rao

Doctor Babar Rao, has been practicing Dermatology for over 20 years. Currently, he has private practices in New York, New Jersey, and California. Doctor Rao completed Medical School at Rawalpindi Medical College. He has also trained at the University of London, UT Southwestern, New York University, and Cornell University, and is also the Acting Chair and an Associate Clinical Professor at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at University of New Jersey of Medicine and Dentistry. Doctor Rao has held free clinics in the United States and Pakistan independently and with APPNA. From the beginning, Doctor Rao's passion has been to help those who are less fortunate; he has been helping undeserved areas in Pakistan with help from other RMC graduates. He was given this opportunity as the first President for Rawalpindi Medical College graduates in America. As President of RMCOF, Rawalpindi Medical College Overseas Foundation, he established the Rawalian Burn Center in Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi. The Rawalian Burn Center has been active for many years now and has saved many lives and is continuing to do so everyday. Doctor Rao has also traveled to the village of Imbert in Puerto Plata for almost 10 years to hold free clinics; he and his team bring medical supplies and several medications to help those who are not able to receive any medical care. Doctor Rao was also one of few Doctors who were able to visit Haiti after the earthquake in 2010. Most recently, as Chair of APPNA Merit he has been focusing on educating the future doctors of Pakistan by organizing weekly tele-lectures with Medical Institutions in Pakistan. These lectures are currently broadcasted throughout Pakistan, but most recently, other countries have been participating.

Humayun Chaudhry

Dr. Humayun “Hank” Chaudhry is the President and CEO of the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB). He was previously Commissioner of Health Services for Suffolk County, New York, overseeing the ninth largest health department in the United States. He is board-certified in internal medicine and is a clinical associate professor of internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and clinical associate professor of preventive medicine at Stony Brook University School of Medicine in New York. Dr. Chaudhry graduated in 1991 from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine and has Master's degrees from New York University and Harvard School of Public Health. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, New York, where he was chief medical resident, and served as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force Reserve, rising to the rank of Major. He is the primary author of Fundamentals of Clinical Medicine, a medical textbook published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins in 2004, and a co-author with David Johnson of Medical Licensing and Discipline in America, published in 2012 by Lexington Books. He became a Master of the American College of Physicians in 2013.

Iftikhar Malik

Iftikhar Malik, a native of Lalamusa, Punjab, is a businessman who lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He pursued a degree in mechanical engineering. After traveling the world through countries such as Turkey and the island of Curacao he eventually settled in New Jersey where he and his wife lives with their four children. Years later, Mr. Malik relocated to Pittsburgh where he acquired and developed multiple McDonald's franchises. In addition to McDonald's and his ventures in real estate, he participates in international and local philanthropic efforts to aid the progress of minorities, especially Muslims. He has been recognized by the McDonald's corporation as a recipient of the Ronald Award, which distinguishes him as a leader in community involvement and for heightening the McDonald's brand. Moreover, prominent local papers, as well as the Champion's Enterprise of Pittsburgh have recognized his efforts.

Javaid Anwar CEO ( Midland Energy Inc )

Syed Javaid Anwar is a Midland, Texas based businessman specializing in oil ans gas industry. Mr.Javaid Anwar was born and raised in the city of Karachi, Pakistan by his single mother, Ms.Tahira Khatoon. He completed his Primary Education and Intermediate eduaction at Adamji Science College in Pakistan and moved to the United States as a student to complete his higher education at University of Wyoming in Petroleum Engineering.

Syed Javaid Anwar paid his way through school by working as a busboy, kitchen helper and in construction during the summers. Though he grew up in a comfortable environment thanks to his hard-working mother and grandparents. There were times during college years he said he was not sure how he would get his next meal. After Graduating in 1976, Javaid Anwar worked in Midland, Amarillo, Houston and Pampa, Texas as a petroleum engineer. In 1984, he set out to create his own path in the high-risk oil business. His company began as a one-man operation, and grew especially in the past five years. He was named in 2011 Outstanding Businessman and Enterpreneur Honoree at the 15th annual Pakistan Chamber of Commerce U.S.A at award ceremony in Houston. Syed Javaid Anwar is a self made man and a true role model Pakistani American.

Syed Javaid now feels the need to give back to the country that gave him so much. he is a generous donor to The University of Texas at Austin, from which his twin children, Leslie and Ryan are graduated in 2012. He said education is the cause closest to his heart because it opened doors for him to be able to come to the U.S. He is a loving son, husband and devoted father to his children. 

Mohammad A. Zubair (Physician)

Mohammad A Zubair MD, FCCP, is one of the founder of APPNA, NJ in 2003. He served as the Past President of APPNANJ and is now Trustee of APPNANJ Chapter. He served as a member in various committees in central APPNA. Dr. Zubair is one of the Founder and Director of APPNANJ Sunday Free clinic. He is Board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Sleep Disorder Medicine. Dr. Zubair is the Medical Director of Woodbridge Sleep Disorder Center and Director of Sleep Disorder Medicine at Bayonne Medical Center. He served as the Chief of Pulmonary Medicine at Bayonne Medical Center in 2009 and 2010. At present he is the Chief of Medicine at Bayonne Medical Center. He holds three active medical practices at Woodbridge, Newark and Bayonne and also practice at JFK Medical Center, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Bayonne Medical Center. He is married to Dr. Saira Zubair who graduated from Rawalpindi Medical School and Director of Woodbridge Sleep Disorder Center. He is blessed with two Sons, Raheel Zubair, who is Johns Hopkins graduate, presently a medical student at George Town Medical School in Washington and Sahil Zubair is an undergraduate student at Johns Hopkins. Last but not least he is brother of Dr. Shahnaz Akhtar, Past President of APPNA NJ.

Shahid Hashmi

Mr. Hashmi has a MBA from University of Illinois and a MBA from Institute of Business Administration, Karachi. He has over 38 years of very diverse experience. Of this, 20 years with multinational large corporations in the US where he headed sales team negotiating multibillion-dollar contracts. For the last eighteen years, he is engaged in his own business as an entrepreneur with Popeyes and currently has interests in 36 Popeyes restaurants with plans to increase his portfolio to include fifty plus stores by 2015 in the Eastern United States. He has been involved in every aspect of Popeye's operations, i.e. acquisitions, lease negotiations, construction, operations, long term planning and acquiring financing etc. He was instrumental in developing the NJ, CT and MA markets as well acquiring sixteen underperforming Popeye's restaurants in New England and Virginia and making those profitable in a short period. Currently he manages a staff of over eight hundred (800) employees with annual revenues in excess of $45 million.

Shahid Rafiq

Shahid Rafiq, M.D. is triple board certified in neurology, vascular neurology (stroke), and sleep medicine. He received his training in neurology from Seton Hall University, NJ Neuroscience Institute in Edison, NJ. He completed his fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at the University of Texas, Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX. Before coming to United States, he first practiced medicine in Pakistan and South Africa. He also taught for medical schools, and this is the source of his continued interest in education, new interventions, and neurological research. He is an engaged member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and American Stroke Association/American Heart Association. Dr. Rafiq is also the founder and stroke director for the Frederick Memorial Hospital (FMH) Stroke Center, which received the maximum five-year accreditation as Frederick County's only certified stroke center. Dr. Rafiq is the only stroke specialist not only for Frederick County, but also for the neighboring communities. He has been recently contracted to provide the EEG services for FMH as well. Needless to say, Dr. Rafiq is an active member of the medical community and can always be found frequenting the halls of the hospital wearing any one of his colorful ties from his famous collection.

Shahid Rashid

Dr. Shahid Rashid received his education and training at Dow Medical College, Johns Hopkins University and University of Texas Medical School at Houston. In addition to residency training and fellowships, he also received courses and training in Health Care Administration and Business Management. He is an Anesthesiologist and has been practicing Interventional Pain Medicine in South Texas since 1998. He is the Founder and the President of South Texas Health Care Systems with its business ventures in the various citiesofTexas.HeisalsooneoftheownersofthelargestPhysicianOwnedHospitalinSouthTexas. Dr.ShahidRashidhasbeenactively involved in APPNA and Dow Medical College Alumni Association including significant community and charitable work. At present he serves as the President of the Islamic Society of South Texas, have worked for the Pakistan Association of Greater Houston and have also served as a Board member of school. He supported the school and its deserving students with scholarships and books to enrich their libraries. He actively participated in fundraising and completing ventures at Dow Medical College and Civil Hospital Karachi, and the building of the Islamic Center and a Mosque in McAllen, Texas. In addition, he was involved in philanthropic activities to establish the businessesfortheneedypeopleinPakistanandelsewhereandsupportedvariouscharitableorganizationsbothlocallyandabroad. Dr. Shahid Rashid is a candidate for the position of a Treasurer of APPNA in 2014. He wants to build an APPNA Charitable Teaching Hospital in the USA to serve the local community and train the local and Pakistani Physicians.

Tariq Butt

Dr. Tariq Butt is a founding member of Access Community Health Network (ACCESS). Dr. Butt has served as the Deputy Medical Officer at ACCESS since 2007. Dr. Butt also serves as chair of the Medical Disciplinary Board and is a physician consultant to the Bureau of Medical Integrity. Dr. Butt is a truly active and engaged member of Chicago's civic and philanthropic communities, serving on several foundations. Dr. Butt is known for mentoring hundreds of students throughout his 30-year medical career. DR. Butt serves an active voice in the Asian American community. He is the founding member of the Asian American Institute and Chair of the Chicago Lahore Committee of the Chicago sister cities International Program. Dr. Butt has received many prestigious awards including: The Loretta Lacey Advocacy (2003), The Horatio Alger Award (2002): was inducted into the Asian American Hall of Fame (2002); The American Heart Saver (2002); The Chicago's 1997 Big Hearts for Young Heroes; and the 1995 Pan-Asian American Award. He lives in Chicago with his wife and three children.

Umar Farooq

Dr. Umar Farooq is board certified in Internal Medicine and a Certified Medical Director. He is board certified in Medical Acupunture and Fellow of American Academy of Medical Acupuncture a Disability Analyst and Fellow of American Board of Disability and Analysts. He is a Civil Surgeon for US Citizenship and Immigration Services. He is the Medical Director at Oakwood Health Care and Rehabilitation Center and Life Choice Hospice, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Umar Farooq is a Clinical Adjunct Associate Professor at Philadelphia University as well as a preceptor for medical students and the residents from Aria Health System and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians. He earned his Medical Degree from Rawalpindi Medical College. In 1989 he received a Diploma in Thoracic Medicine from National Heart and Lung Institute, Royal Brompton Hospital London, UK. He worked as a House Officer in Medicine at Russel Hall Hospital Dudley, UK. In 1991 he immigrated to United States and completed his Internal Medicine Residency. In 1999, Dr. Umar Farooq started his private practice with his wife Dr Sabahat Farooq in Bensalem Pennsylvania. He was the Medical Director of a sleep center in Bensalem from 2006 to 2009. Dr. Farooq is also politically active. He was nominated for Bucks County Coroner by Democratic Party and ran for the office in November 2011 after winning primary elections. Dr Umar Farooq is nominated one of the top internists on the list of U.S. News Top Doctors.
